Are These Earrings Too Heavy? How to Check Before Buying Online

There is no single earring weight that feels comfortable for everyone. Instead of relying on “lightweight,” check the actual weight and compare it with a pair you already enjoy wearing.

Is the weight for one earring or the pair?

Read the unit carefully. A pair weighing 8 g is not the same as one earring weighing 8 g. If the two earrings are identical and the stated weight covers only the earrings, divide the pair weight by two for an approximate weight per ear. For an asymmetric pair, ask for each earring's weight separately.

If the listing does not explain its measurement, ask before ordering. Do not assume a weight includes—or excludes—packaging or backs.

Use a comfortable pair as your reference

Choose earrings you can comfortably wear for the occasion you have in mind. Weigh one on a scale capable of measuring small gram amounts, or check its original listing. Compare that figure with the new pair on the same basis: single earring against single earring.

This gives you a personal reference, not a guaranteed comfort limit. A pair that suits a short dinner may not suit a full working day.

Check length and construction too

Weight alone does not describe how earrings feel. Look at the drop length, fastening and shape. Consider whether the design could catch on a scarf, collar or hair, and compare the stated dimensions with earrings you own. A cropped photograph is not a reliable size guide.

Do not assume a larger design must be heavier or a smaller one must be comfortable; check the measurements.

Do not push through discomfort

If earrings pull, pinch or cause discomfort, take them off rather than trying to get used to the weight. For persistent soreness or irritation, seek appropriate professional advice.

When browsing our handmade earrings, check each design's weight and dimensions. If either is unclear, ask us for the missing measurement before buying.
