8 mm or 10 mm Beads: Which Bracelet Should You Choose?

Choose 8 mm beads if you prefer a less prominent look, or 10 mm if you want a bolder round-bead bracelet. Neither is the correct size for a particular gender or body type: the choice is about the effect and feel you enjoy.

See the difference at actual size

The measurement describes each bead's diameter, not the bracelet's length. A 10 mm bead is 2 mm wider than an 8 mm bead. That sounds small, but the difference repeats around the bracelet.

Draw several 8 mm circles and several 10 mm circles on paper using a ruler. Compare the rows beside your wrist. This is a visual guide only: flat circles cannot reproduce a round bead's thickness, weight or fit. If you print a bead-size chart, verify its scale with a ruler.

Choose for your usual outfits and activities

For a subtle accent or a bracelet worn alongside other pieces, start by considering the smaller option. For a single bracelet you want to stand out, consider the larger option.

Think about cuffs, desk work and how much you notice jewelry against your wrist. If possible, compare with beads you already own. Do not judge weight from diameter alone; stone type, bracelet length and other components also matter.

Bigger beads do not automatically mean better quality

Bead size is a design choice, not a quality grade. Compare the stated material, finish and construction separately. Choose the size you would enjoy wearing rather than assuming that a larger bead is always an upgrade.

Select bracelet length separately

After choosing bead diameter, check the bracelet's length option. A larger bead can change how a bracelet feels, so do not assume that two different constructions will fit identically because their listed lengths match.

Use our Bracelet Size Guide for the wrist measurement step. Then check both selections on the product page: bead diameter in millimetres and finished bracelet length in inches. Browse our handmade bracelets for the options available in each design.
